US WAT C4: Smooth Water Trip and Grand Canyon Airline Experience

I'm still in Chinese New Year mood!
And I think I should finish my journal asap!

Since Grand Canyon is so grand, in order to conquer the canyon, one must at least hike down, fly above, raft through or ride the railway! And I did ALL! *applause*

----------------------------XXX---------------------XXX-------------------------------

FYI, there's a river cutting through the Grand Canyon, which is called Colorado River.
The river current is damn strong and rafting on it is very challenging! And it takes USD 200++ for few days time.

So, we decided to go for smooth water floating trip, more gentle one. :)
We spent one of our days off on this!
Kick started the day with Burrito Curry Cheese.

And here we go! Taking to the bus to the North part of Grand Canyon.
Near to a town called Page, AZ.
As you can see, the night before was the first snow. So, the path was covered with white snow, leaving the marks of wheels.
It's js 6.30 am, damn early! It takes 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach the destination.
Well, we visited the Glen Canyon Dam first!
Down to the bottom of the dam, that's where we started our trip.
Near the dam, there's a visitor center by the name of Carl Hayden.
It exhibits lotz of stuff regarding to the Glen Canyon Dam.

OK, to avoid confusion, I will simplify the facts.

1) Grand Canyon is real grand and huge.
2) The Colorado River cuts through the canyon, flowing from North to South.
3) Somewhere near the town of Page, someone built the Glen Canyon Dam.
4) Glen Canyon Dam prevents the strong current flow at North part of the canyon, while collecting water to generate electricity and for beneficial missions.
5) After the dam is built, upper part of the dam called Lake Powell, and the water released from the dam, flows into Colorado River.

Blablabla. End of facts.
That's y it's called smooth water flowing trip, because the trip started at the bottom of the dam, where water flows peacefully.

We gathered in front of the trip provider company around 10am.
We are joining other groups for the float trip.
Our lunch!

Here we go! This was the first time I went to the bottom part of a dam.
Going through a tunnel.
Vibrating!
OK! Reached the bottom. Got to wear the safety helmet.
Gosh, I look just like a construction worker.
Way to our floating boats.
Our tour guide, someone said she is a statue!=.=

There's a bridge beside the dam, crossed over Colorado River.
Here we go!
Further, further....
This was the 15.5 miles route, with few scenic points.

Let the pictures do the talking.

It's late fall season, and the temperature of the water was around 7 to 8-degree Celcius.
The sun was warm, but the wind was breezing cold!!
Kept sneezing when the motorized floating boat moved forward.

Lunch time! Had our break somewhere else.
Walked up this short trail, and we got to see the Petroglyphs, or so called Rock Art~
It's like ancient men crafted some pictures on the rock way million years ago.
There you see!
I wonder how they crafted in a straight line! and all look alike!
Just pressed control C and V?
PROTECT!
This is considered the rest stop for the trip.
So they have waterless toilet too.
Just dig a hole and everyone will poo or pee into it!
*I know it's uncomfortable to see shits! Skip that!*

OK! The trip continued!
Well, for 3 months, I've viewed the canyon from top of the rim.
And this was the first time I viewed it from the base.
And the rocks were so gigantic!
Total different experiences!
The black colour part of the rock in the picture was where the water level reached before the Glen Canyon Dam was built! Thanks to the dam which made us happened to be on the trip.:)

Next, we reached a well known scenic point, flowing beside a horseshoe bend rock!
It's just like a 180 degrees turn, U-shaped~
And I was glad to view it from the rim too during my one month travel period!
- Horseshoe Bend, AZ -

Horseshoe Bend is the name for a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. The bend is locally known as "King Bend." It is located slightly downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, about four miles or 6 km south of Page.
That's really beautiful!

I passed by this little creature and I thought it's just a still statue.
It's actually a bird-type creature.*forgot the name*
Kinda like posing for me to take picture.:)
Went on!
The guide showed us this little arch with the fridge handler shape.
The trip took almost 5 hours, nearing the ending point.
*Slowing down*
Just love the way the glowing river shines!

The trip ended at Lee's Ferry.
This is the place where the rafting trip starts, as the river's current getting stronger.

On the way back, we went through the Marble Canyon area.
There are different kinds of rocks could be found, with different shapes.

Gift shop @ Cameron Trading Post.
**Finding #4: In the States, there's a lot of trading posts, where the trading of goods takes place. It's used to exchange news and a meet up point before the newspaper exists. Nowadays, they sell souvenirs and groceries too.
Shell Gas Station! Seldom said petrol.

End of the floating experience!

----------------------------XXX---------------------XXX-------------------------------
After a few days, I was being called home as not much work need to be done.
Since it's a zero salary special day off, I decided to try out to fly around the Canyon!
And I DID IT!

Spent around 10 bucks per pax for cab, to take my friend and I to the nearest airport.

Thanks to my employer, normal rate could cost around 120 bucks,
and guess what, we got unlimited rides on plane with $20 only!
*If not I weren't be there too!*
Here's my boarding pass.
And here's the route, a circular view from sky.

It's my turn!

Quite excited cuz never boarded a private plane besides normal aircraft for passengers.
Safety instructions, as usual.
Okay, spinning.....
GO!

The first thing I saw was Kaibab National Forest.
It's so crowded that sometimes the Fire Department gotta burned some of the trees down to create spaces between the trees. An attempt to prevent massive fire on forest while lightning strikes.
Skyline of the land and the sky!

Bird eye view of Colorado River!
The water current is strong!
The cutting edges of the canyon....
And I felt I was so tiny when I saw the mighty canyon...

And now we were above Grand Canyon North Rim.
Slightly covered with snow.

Here's somewhere near the West Rim, around Hermits Rest area.
Said "Hello" to the cloud!

It was awesome, though it's just 50 minutes tour!!!!
Yeah, I was listening to the audio guided device, though not much helpful.
Safely touched down to ground.
Before I left, of cuz I won't forget to sign the guest book!

"DIZZY BUT ENJOYABLE!"
It's real dizzzzzy, esp I tried to move to left and right to snap here and there~
@.@''''''

What a flying experience!
I won't forget the soaring moment in the sky!
